Elk is an abstract painting of an elk based on a photograph taken at Yellowstone National Park in Montana. Elk are the largest animal within the deer family. They are common in North America, East and Central Asia. Elk are vegetarians. This whimsical elk has purple antlers.

My fascination with patterns stems from my love of numbers. While mathematics has been integral in my working career in finance, my other love is painting. My subject matter is inspired by photographs taken by friends and family. I see a photograph in terms of color, line and geometry. These qualities appeal to my sense of order and design (my fascination with numbers translated into art). There are times when a single photograph and the resulting abstract painting leads to another path -- and another painting -- and sometimes a third or fourth version from the same photo.
