Wind is a watercolor painting of trees on a windy, stormy day. The scene is from a photograph taken at Olympia National Park. The trees bending in unison attracted my attention; they are almost like dancers. Or, they demonstrate strength against adversity. The force of the wind, the oncoming storm, the misty atmosphere are what caught my attention. Can you hear the howling wind? Can you feel the wind? This is mostly blue tones with a hint of green and purple.

Strong storms approaching
Alarms sounded, wind picked up
Animals huddled
Winds howled loud and long/
Furiously they battered/
Find shelter she cried/
Lightning and thunder/
Bright and loud through the night time/
They ran for cover/

My fascination with patterns stems from my love of numbers. While mathematics has been integral in my working career in finance, my other love is painting. My subject matter is inspired by photographs taken by friends and family. I see a photograph in terms of color, line and geometry. These qualities appeal to my sense of order and design (my fascination with numbers translated into art). There are times when a single photograph and the resulting abstract painting leads to another path -- and another painting -- and sometimes a third or fourth version from the same photo.
